International Day of Immunology 2026 Webinar
As winter unfolds, we are getting ready to celebrate the International Day of Immunology on April 29th.
Every year on 29 April, IUIS and EFIS bring the global immunology community together to celebrate the International Day of Immunology (DoI). A key highlight of this campaign is the official Day of Immunology webinar, featuring outstanding speakers and timely scientific discussions designed to raise awareness of immunology and explore the annual theme.
This year, the Day of Immunology 2026 will spotlight the theme “Regulatory T Cells: Guardians of Immune Balance”, highlighting the critical role of immune regulation in health and disease. We are extremely happy and proud to announce that this year, we will host Nobel Prize 2025 laureate Professor Shimon Sakaguchi along with Professor Makoto Miyara for the Day of Immunology Webinar.
Registration is now open! Sign up for the live webinar happening on April 29th at 15:00 CET and be part of this inspiring discussion. Stay tuned for more speakers on the lineup!
International Day of Immunology
Awareness Campaign and Awards
In the lead-up to the 2026 Day of Immunology (DoI), which will bring global attention to the theme “Regulatory T Cells: Guardians of Immune Balance”, the #DayofImmunology social media campaign will be relaunched to raise public awareness of the immune system’s vital importance for overall health and well-being. We invite and encourage all our national societies to contribute by submitting videos answering the theme related questions which will be shared on our social media channels. Deadline for social media campaign is April 3! Contact us to find out more about how to participate!
Furthermore, IUIS and EFIS will recognize the most creative and most impactful awareness campaigns organized by our members around the Day of Immunology with six awards! The DoI Awards are your chance to showcase creative and meaningful awareness campaigns. Find out more about the campaign, how to participate and the prizes here.
Established in 2009 by EFIS and the European Journal of Immunology (EJI), Ita Askonas Award recognizes exceptional female group leaders in immunology who have led an independent laboratory for a minimum of four and no more than ten years. Nominations are due by June 30, 2026. More about the award and application details are available here.

Gender & Diversity Task Force Celebrates International Women's Day
To celebrate International Women’s Day, the EFIS Gender & Diversity Task Force highlights the remarkable contributions of women scientists whose discoveries have transformed immunology and global health. Pioneering researchers such as Rosalyn Yalow, Gertrude B. Elion, Françoise Barré-Sinoussi, Tu Youyou, and Katalin Karikó have expanded our understanding of immune mechanisms and infectious diseases, leading to groundbreaking diagnostic tools, life-saving therapies, and vaccines. Their achievements demonstrate how fundamental scientific discoveries can translate into major advances in medicine and public health. By recognizing these contributions, we also celebrate the countless women scientists whose work continues to advance immunology today. EFIS remains committed to promoting diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunities in immunology, supporting the next generation of scientists who will drive future discoveries and innovations in immune research.
