This month, we highlight the Scientific Publishing Workshop with EJI editors, organised by the European Journal of Immunology at the DGfI Annual Meeting, which starts on September 15th. We also share news and upcoming events from our member societies, yEFIS and the wider immunology community, including the upcoming call for nominations for the ACTERIA Early Career Research Prize, opening soon. Finally, we bring you exciting updates on ECI 2027 as we approach this major gathering, now less than a year away.
We also would like to remind our member societies to start considering nominations for the EFIS Lifetime Achievement Award 2027 and encourage them to review the award criteria and nomination process on the EFIS website.

Nominations for the ACTERIA Early Career Research Prizes will open soon!
ACTERIA Early Career Research Prizes awarded by EFIS will honor young immunologists and allergologists for their achievements and research efforts conducted in a European university/research organization.
Call for nominations will open on October 1, 2026. Nominations will be accepted exclusively from EFIS-affiliated National Societies. Application guidelines and eligibility criteria can be found here.
Stemness, Regeneration and Immunity Symposium
The third edition of Stemness, Regeneration and Immunity Symposium at the Francis Crick Institute willbring together leading researchers and internationally recognised experts, including Fred Ramsdell and Gill Bates, spanning basic discovery science, developmental processes and translational research to explore how these interconnected fields are shaping our understanding of human health and disease. Early bird registration ends on October 15. Abstract submissions are open until January 15, 2027, with opportunities for short talks, flash talks and poster presentations.
The next Spring School will take place from March 8-12, 2027 in Ettal, Bavaria. Registration is open!
The Spring School is an intensive course designed for final-year PhD students, early-career postdoctoral researchers, clinical scientists and researchers from industry who have a keen interest in cutting-edge immunology. During the five-day course, German and international experts from basic and clinical immunology research will deliver in-depth lectures on their current research areas, covering a broad spectrum of current topics in immunology – from molecular and cellular mechanisms to translational and clinical applications. Various formats have been incorporated into the program to encourage active exchange among participants. Taking place on the premises of Ettal Abbey, the School offers ample time for meetings and discussions with the lecturers, as well as excellent opportunities for networking and among young researchers. This school is the founding school of the Academy of Immunology of the German Society for Immunology (DGfI).
The DGfI Commission on Gender Equality and Career Development provides a forum for excellent female immunologists. They will share their exciting research, but also talk about their experiences in forming a career as women in STEM (=MINT).
Elvira Mass is a full professor in Developmental Biology of the Immune System at the LIMES Institute in Bonn. Her lab studies the role of macrophages in organ development and function. Deeper insights into mechanisms inducing macrophage dysfunction during pregnancy might, in the future, allow to counteract them early during development. Prof. Mass is speaker of the DFG research group FOR 5775 and an active mentor of early-career scientists. In this lecture, Prof. Dr. Elvira Mass willdiscuss"Ontogeny programs core functions and self-renewal in macrophages".
The lectures are held online and registration is free of charge.
The French (SFI) and Portuguese (SPI) Societies for Immunology are organizing a joint SFI-SPI conference in Toulouse, France, between 4-6 November 2026. The meeting will showcase recent advances in fundamental, translational and clinical immunology through plenary and parallel sessions, as well as keynote lectures by Shimon Sakaguchi and Pamela Schwartzberg. The program also includes sessions dedicated to Young Immunologists and to career development, highlighting the strong commitment of both societies to early-career researchers.
